Hi - Johanna here. As you may have just read, I have a few things going at once, at any given time. Here's roughly how they fit together:
In my art practice, I'm drawn to repetition and accumulation: documenting ordinary life, building small rituals, and following them long enough for something larger to take shape.
Elsewhere, I'm drawn to messy systems. I've spent much of my career on complex tools and workflows for business owners and operators doing complicated work. I like getting close to how people actually operate, finding patterns in the mess, and building the connective tissue that makes the whole thing hold together.
Across all of it–art, work, and the small systems I build for myself–I tend to work the same way: observe, collect, prototype, make, and follow threads to see where they lead. Sometimes that means a long-running art project, and others it means poking at data, building a tool, or figuring out how a tangled system fits together.
